Costa Rica 2012

I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to Costa Rica with 4 amazing students in 2012!!  The students were hosted by families in La Guácima which is a small pueblo just outside of Alajuela, Costa Rica.  During the week we attended 4 hours of intense Spanish classes at El Rancho de Español.  We also had a cooking class, dance class, went zip lining, swam in the pool, went on a jungle river tour, walked across a suspension bridge in the middle of the rain forest, learned about how the Mayan´s produced chocolate, swam in the hot springs at the base of the Arenal volcano, participated in a two day service project, and much much more!!
Arrival at El Rancho de Español- our home base.
 Learning to bake empanadas.
Interacting with local school children during our two day service project

Painting one of the classrooms during our service project.

Intense language learning at El Rancho.

Painting a hopscotch at our local service project.
Hanging out on campus at El Rancho.

 And more shopping.
Costa Rica is known for their beautifully decorated oxcarts.  We visited an oxcart factory and did some shopping as well.

The city of Zarcero is located in the mountainous cloud forest.
Real chocolate- fresh from the chocolate pod- crushed and milled by our very own group members.
Hot chocolate- fresh from the plant!
Crossing the suspension bridge in search of the chocolate bean!
Stop the bus!!  There's a waterfall!
